The Paschim Odissa Sanskrutik Parishad (POSP), a premier registered Socio-cultural organisation established since 1998 in the steel city of Rourkela, Odisha. POSP is committed for upliftment and development of the unique heritage of Western Orissa. The prime objective of the organisation is to preserve, innovate, promote and disseminate the various art forms covering the broad disciplines of music, dance and literary activities. Rourkela Steel City, being in nature a city of cosmopolitan one with presence of people from all the state of the country, our activities play very significant role in dissemination and spreading the cultural sense of our rich heritage in the minds of all sections of the society.
It is a well-known fact that Western Odisha is famous for its multiple Tribal Dance forms and folk songs. Sambalpuri Folk Dances like Dalkhai, Rasalkeli are considered as the most wonderful rhythmic expressions of general human emotions. The famous Rangabati Dance has thrilled the entire World with its powerful music associated with emotional rhythm. In the process, auspicious functions of western Odisha like Nuakhai, Pushpuni, Sambalpuri din, Puo Jeuntia, Bhai Jenutia and jayantis of important luminaries like Gangadhar Meher, Vir Surendra Sai, Santha kabi Bhima Bhoi are celebrated.
Important and genius personalities excelled in various fields are honoured every year in the function. Cultural troupes with folk base from different parts of Paschim Odisha are invited to perform in these occasions. Apart from the above cultural activities, POSP also does Social activities in various fields like Tree Plantation, Organizing Blood Donation Camps, Health & Hygiene camps, Drug de-addiction programs, Environment Protection & awareness programs, various other awareness programs for house wives etc. It may not be out of place to mention here that our organization was adjudged as the BEST cultural organization of the city in 2010 by the local administration.
